Notarized translation

A notarized translation is a translation made by a certified specialist and certified by the notary’s signature and seal. In this form the translated text acquires the status of an official document in the territory of a foreign country or, on the contrary, of a foreign official document in the territory of Ukraine.

What translations are usually certified by a notary’s seal:

• personal documents (passport, identification code, driver’s license, pension card, military registration card);
• individuals’ certificates (birth/death, marriage/divorce, surname change certificates, etc.);
• educational documents (a graduation certificate with a transcript, a certificate with a transcript, a diploma with a transcript, a certificate from the place of study, an extract from the student’s grade report sheet, etc.);
• documents confirming the employment (employment record card, certificate from the place of employment, income certificate, etc.);

According to the Law of Ukraine on Notaries, Article 79: “The notary shall certify the true translation of the document from one language to another, provided that he is fluent in the relevant languages. If the notary is not fluent in the relevant foreign languages, the translation may be done by a certified translator, the true signature of which shall be certified by a notary”.

In practice, this happens as follows: a qualified translator (an employee of a translation agency) does the translation, and the notary confirms its true signature only. The translation of any document or a part thereof may be certified by a notary, provided that the text does not contain information violating the law. It may take several days to certify complex or large documents.

Stages of notarized translation at «OpenSpace» Translation Agency:

• Our translator, who has obtained a specialized university degree, translates the document and presents it according to the established sample.
• After the assignment is completed, the translator signs the same in the presence of a notary. This signature means that the translator is responsible for the accurate translation of the data contained in the original document.
• The translator also certifies his/her qualification by presenting his/her university diploma with “translator” major indicated therein to the notary.
• The notary confirms the translator’s true signature on the completed translation and his/her qualification, and enter the translator’s personal data into the notary’s registry.
• You receive the translated and certified document. We ensure the complete confidentiality of information received and its non-disclosure to the third parties.
• The notarized translation can be apostilled only when the Apostille is available on the original document.
• Besides certification of translations, the notary may also provide the other notary services, i.e. certify a power of attorney, an application, a photocopy, an agreement, etc.

Translations of private correspondence, various publications, and other information materials shall be certified by the seal of the translation agency only. The same seal will be required on a document if you decide to apply for a tourist, visitor, or business visa at a foreign embassy.
