Consecutive translation

Consecutive interpretation is a type of interpretation done during small pauses in the speech of a speaker, lecturer, or conversation participant. It is also called a paragraph-phrasal interpretation, because the foreign speaker is warned in advance that s/he needs to make semantic pauses in his/her speech, the length of which, at a regular speaking pace, is equal to 1 paragraph or 2-3 complex sentences (phrases). It is also important for the interpreter to see the speaker’s emotional pitch at the time of interpretation, since his/her work consists not so much in thorough interpretation of the text “word for word” as in conveying the meaning of what was said to the participants.
